For the first time in eight years, the Augusta University women’s basketball team is in the NCAA Tournament. The Lady Jaguars are also making just their fourth postseason appearance in program history.
“It’s a great feeling,” six-year head coach Nate Teymer said. “It’s one of those things where we appreciate how hard it is to get there, and you gotta cherish every moment of it cause it’s not guaranteed every year, so it’s a great accomplishment.”
It’s quite the feat for Teymer, who took over a program that had won just five combined games in the previous two seasons. Now, he’s led Augusta to a 22-8 record and ended the Lady Jags NCAA Tournament drought.
“We hope we can go every year, but we gotta make sure we just enjoy the ride right now,” Teymer said.
Augusta faces a tough first round matchup at undefeated Limestone (30-0) — the Southeast region’s top seed. The game tips at 5 p.m. Friday night.
