Man Charged In Aiken In Connection To Stolen Vehicle, 2 Fires

Aiken, SC (WJBF) – Fire investigators with the Aiken Department of Public Safety (ADPS) have arrested and charged a 53-year-old man in connection to a stolen vehicle and 2 fires.

Michael Anthony Odom, Sr. is charged with Possession of an Automobile Valued at more than $2,000 but less than $10,000 and three (3) counts of Arson Third Degree.

On Sunday, February 28th Aiken Department of Public Safety responded to a suspicious fire at the 2nd Judicial Circuit Public Defender’s Office, in downtown Aiken, on the corner of Pendleton Street and Barnwell Avenue. Investigators were able to determine the fire was intentionally set. While on scene, ADPS also responded to 619 Aldrich Street for a vehicle and structure fire. Investigators were again able to determine the vehicle fire was intentionally set, and then spread to the vacant residence.

Damage to the Public Defender’s Office was substantial. The vehicle and residence were both classified as a total loss.

Fire investigators identified the burned vehicle as a 1998 Ford F-150 which was stolen from a business in Saluda, South Carolina days prior to the fire.
