(AUGUSTA,GA) Augusta Commissioners are being asked to consider changing the city’s job applications
Mayor Hardie Davis would like to see the H-R department drop the check box on forms requiring applicants to disclose they’re criminal histories.
If commissioners go along they would be following the lead of the state of Georgia as well as dozens of other cities across the country.
“I think it’s a good idea because many times on paper can’t speak for you so it gives you the opportunity to come in an sit down and have the opportunity to tell your own story what has transpired and do you deserve a second opportunity and I think it’s the right way to go,” said Commissioner Ben Hasan.
Davis says offering those who have been behind bars the potential for a fresh start would translate to economic development for the city.
