Burke County, GA (WJBF) – Steven James Murray, who is charged in the death of 71-year-old Father Rene Robert, from Florida, made a quick appearance at the Burke County Courthouse Wednesday for a bond hearing which was not granted.
Murray was escorted into the courtroom by Burke County Sheriff Greg Coursey.
Murray had a much different demeanor than he’s shown in the past. His head was down, he was silent, and looked to show some remorse. The judge read Murray’s charge, Malice Murder, which is a felony and therefore the judge denied bond.
Before heading back to jail, he told us, “If anyone loved Father Rene, they will forgive me, because he is a son of God. Forgiveness is forgiveness.” He was said, after court, “I have mental problems and I lost control of myself. I apologize, I apologize, I apologize.”
Murray will face a Superior Court judge, however a date has not been set. We’ll keep you updated when that date is announced.
