ABBEVILLE, S.C. (AP) — The coroner says that human remains were found in a car located after a fisherman discovered it submerged in Lake Russell.

Abbeville County Coroner Ronnie Ashley told WYFF-TV (http://goo.gl/bwdkt8 ) that the man fishing saw the Chevrolet Saturday afternoon near a boat ramp. When the car was retrieved, the body was found.

Ashley says investigators are working to figure out if the remains are related to a missing person case from 16 years ago. That man went missing from Calhoun Falls, but Ashley says investigators aren’t releasing his name.

An autopsy is scheduled for Monday.

The vehicle was spotted after a lack of rain made the lake’s water level lower than normal.
