Aquinas’s Leonard & Strom Thurmond’s Hillary Named Border Bowl 4 Head Coaches

Augusta, GA (WJBF) — Aquinas’ James Leonard and Strom Thurmond’s Antwaun Hillary will lead Team Georgia and Team South Carolina in Border Bowl 4 next January. The two coaches of our all-star teams were announced Tuesday afternoon at Television Park.

Both coaches were excited about the opportunity to coach in the Border Bowl. Our annual all-star game put on with the Augusta Chronicle features seniors only. While many will be going off to college, for some this will be their last time putting on a football uniform. And our two coaches realize that makes this game extra special. “You need to make sure they have fun,” James Leonard said Tuesday. “For most of these guys it’s going to be the last time they play football. Wanna make sure they play and enjoy it, but at the same time being a coach you want to win. The kids want to win too.” Coach Hillary added, “You got some guys that are going to go to college and play at the next level. But you got some guys that’s not. They do a good job trying to compete and ultimately win the game.

Both coaches also said they love that the game is played for a great cause. In 3 Border Bowls, nearly $40,000 has been raised for the Ronald McDonald House of Augusta.

Team Georgia is 2-1 vs Team South Carolina in the Border Bowl.
