AUGUSTA, GA (WJBF) – According to Richmond County Coroner Mark Bowen, the cause of an inmate’s death at the Charles B. Webster Detention Center has been determined.
Autopsy results were returned from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) Tuesday afternoon Debra Leverett, who died Sunday.
Bowen tells us that Leverett died from Peritonitis due to non-traumatic gastric perforation. The manner of death is natural.
According to the Mayo Clinic’s website, Peritonitis can result from any rupture (perforation) in your abdomen, or as a complication of other medical conditions….due to bacterial or fungal infection.

AUGUSTA, GA (WJBF) – We now know the name of the inmate who died at the Richmond County Jail, Sunday Morning.
50-year-old Debra Leverett died at the Charles B. Webster Detention Center just before 8:30 a.m. on Sunday morning.
Her body has been sent to the GBI lab in Atlanta for an autopsy.

AUGUSTA, GA (WJBF) – A woman has died at the Richmond County Jail.
Richmond County Coroner Mark Bowen has confirmed he is investigating a death at the jail.
He couldn’t provide any more details to us.
The GBI is investigating the woman’s death.
