Augusta, GA (WJBF) – Due to weather concerns, the James Brown Family Birthday Bash, scheduled for Tuesday night, is moving to the Bell Auditorium.
The event celebrates the birthday of “The Godfather of Soul”.
The show will benefit the James Brown Academy of Musik Pupils (JAMP), whose mission is to further music education for Augusta’s youth through the music of James Brown. The non-profit is run by James Brown’s daughter, Deanna Brown Thomas and Keith Jenkins, lead guitarist and music director for the James Brown Band.
“We aren’t taking chances with the weather. It is still a FREE SHOW! So get on up, tighten up that wig, and come celebrate with us!” said Jenkins.
Thirteen members of the legendary James Brown Band will reunite for the first time in ten years with special guests from all across the country at Bell Auditorium, the site of the last Birthday Bash in 1997. Guests include Sharon Jones, George Porter Jr. (The Meters), Ivan Neville (Dumpstaphunk), Ty Taylor (Vintage Trouble), Jennifer Hartswick (Trey Anastasio Band), Chris Rob (Nasty Delicious), Gavin Hamilton (Funk You) and Greg Hester.
Concert organizers, recently announced it will be free for General Admission thanks to the generosity of Title Sponsor, Copenhaver Consulting. Additionally, a live video stream of the entire show will be available for free worldwide on the James Brown Family Foundation’s website.
Admission is on a first come, first served basis. Concessions will be sold on site. No re-entry, weapons, pets, outside food or drink will be allowed. Tickets can be purchased here. VIP tickets, which are extremely limited are $65 in advance and $75 the day of the show. Parking is $5 cash.
