Augusta, GA (WJBF) – People coming to Augusta for vacations are a big business for the city.
Mayor Hardie Davis has proclaimed this week as National Travel and Tourism Week in Augusta.
According to the Augusta Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB), tourism generates $500 million in spending in Augusta, creates 4,600 jobs, and brings in more than $14 million in taxes.
Mayor Davis says, when it comes to visitors, Augusta is more than just the Masters. “We know that’s a very big time for us, but beyond that, when you look at the [Augusta] Canal, the historic places we have in our city, the boyhood home of Woodrow Wilson…you look at all of those things, the home of James Brown…”
In 2015, the CVB worked with 270 different groups and those groups generated more than $40 million in direct spending.
