ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The Albuquerque Police Department has released video of a dramatic scene from Monday evening that led to the arrest of an Albuquerque woman who’s accused of taking police on a chase with her kids in the car.
Police say an officer spotted Patsy Anaya, 35, following Christopher Norkus, 31, as he was walking near Cochiti Road in southeast Albuquerque.
Officers say Anaya and Norkus, who are dating, had been arguing. Just before officers approached her car, Anaya allegedly sped toward them, nearly hitting them — then took off, sparking the chase.
Police tried using spike strips and called in air support.
Authorities say she eventually crashed into the patrol units, which had been set up as a barricade in northeast Albuquerque.
Police say Anaya was drunk with her two kids in the car. They were not hurt.
After her arrest, an officer asked, “What is your problem? You have kids in there.” She replied, “Sir, I’m drunk.”
According to online court records, she’s facing charges including child abuse, and aggravated assault on a police officer with a deadly weapon.
Norkus was arrested on drug charges.
