AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF) – Coverage you can count on continues to the Richmond County Marshal’s Office race, where incumbent Steve Smith has held the position for nearly three decades.
Longtime incumbent Steve Smith was challenged for his position by Lieutenant Ramone Lamkin. Smith fell short to his opponent in this election. The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office Lieutenant celebrated his win on Tuesday night as the county’s newest Marshal in nearly 30 years. Surrounded by family, friends and supporters who patiently waited for the results of the election.
“We worked hard. We laid out a plan, we followed the plan to a tee. Hard work pays off,” Lamkin told WJBF News Channel 6.
Lamkin says the voters wanted to see new leadership in Richmond County, “and we are going to make Augusta better. I mean we are definitely going to make Augusta better. I’m just so happy right now!” Lamkin said.
Part of his platform is making the Richmond County Marshal’s office one of the best in state and he says he can accomplish that by listening to the community.
“I’m definitely going to be visible because one thing is being a part of the community. I’m going to be a visible Marshal. A visible elected official. I’m going to be accessible,” said Lamkin.
Ramone Lamkin will assume his new role as Marshal in January of 2017 overlooking Augusta Regional Airport, court division, enforcement division, and security division in Richmond County.
