Lawsuit: Publix accused of selling cake with human skin

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. (WFTV)  — A lawsuit recently filed by an Orlando family claims that they were sold, and ate, a Publix ice cream cake contaminated with human skin.

Jessica Lynn Moore filed the suit in Orange County Circuit Court on behalf of herself and her two children and named Publix and the maker of the ice cream cake, Superior Dairy Inc., as defendants.

Moore claimed that she purchased the cake from Publix at 4606 Kirkman Road in Orlando on March 7, 2015.

“While eating the Publix cake, (Moore) unintentionally chewed on a foreign object that was embedded in the Publix cake, which was determined to be human skin,” the suit says.

Moore’s two children also ate the cake, the suit says.

Eating the cake caused all three to suffer “great mental anguish (and) emotional and psychological distress,” the suit says.

The lawsuit does not seek a specific amount in damages, except to say that the claim would be “in excess of $15,000.”

Publix representatives said the company does not comment on pending litigation.

In court filings, Superior Dairy Inc., demanded a trial by jury on the accusations.
