COLORADO SPRINGS, Co. (WJBF) – Investigations are underway after two afternoon crashes involving military air demonstration squadron jets.
An Air Force Thunderbird jet crashed south of Colorado Springs just after a flyover for a graduation of Air Force Academy cadets where President Barack Obama had spoken.
Air Force spokeswoman Lt. Col. Michal Kloeffler-Howard said Thursday the pilot ejected. He was reportedly seen walking around shortly after. No injuries on the ground were reported.
Obama was still at the graduation site at the time of the crash, taking photos with attendees prior to returning to Washington. The crash happened about 15 miles south of the academy.
News has also just broken at 4:15pm Thursday that a Blue Angels jet crashed in Smyrna, Tennessee. It went down behind a shopping center.
A La Vergne official confirmed the accident happened around 3 p.m. near Weakly Lane, not far from the bowling alley.
LifeFlight helicopters from Vanderbilt University Medical Center were called to the scene.
