Augusta, GA (WJBF) — Augusta’s Justin “Jip” DeLoach is ready for his first main event. The 22-year-old will headline this Saturday night’s edition of Premiere Boxing Champions on NBCSN. When asked what this means to him, DeLoach started his respose: “Finally.”
It’s been a long road to this point for DeLoach. He’s 14-1 in his still young professional career. He had been training with Ronnie Shields in Houston, Texas. Then, more recently, he was working with former world champion Paul Williams in Aiken. But that relationship fizzled because of differences between the two according to DeLoach. Now Jip is back training in his hometown at Augusta Boxing Club working with Tyron Guy & Lucius Roberson. And he says he is ready for this big opportunity. “We’ve been putting in hard work for 10 years,” DeLoach said. “I knew it would come. I’ve been telling everybody 2016 was going to be a big year for me. I’m excited man. I’m just ready to perform.”
DeLoach’s opponent, Junior Castillo, is 10-0 with 9 knockouts, but DeLoach sounds confident about his chances. “If I do too much, that’s when the fight will go wrong. If I just go in there and have fun, do me, and box, then it’s going to be a great, easy fight.”
DeLoach says if everything goes well Saturday night, his goal is to fight for a championship in the next year.
