AUGUSTA,Ga (WJBF) More money to battle blight in Augusta is up for debate.
A commission committee will discuss commissioner Bill Lockett’s proposal to take one million dollars out of contingency and use to to demolish run down buildings.
Last week commissioners learned 2015 ended with a two point six million dollar surplus and some commissioners say some of that money could be be used for tearing down those structures.
“We could take some of that money and tear down more of these dilapidated houses we have in our neighborhoods that would be a reminder and encouragement to the public that we’re trying to do something to improve out community and it benefits them,” says Commissioner Dennis Williams.
Last week Commissioner Lockett proposed using all of the surplus to take down the buildings.
