AUGUSTA,Ga (WJBF) Augusta’s Chief Tax appraiser has a new contract.
Commissioners approving the new deal for Alveno Ross, that removed a recommended pay raise, and called for a 90 day work review of the tax assessors office.
Ross has been criticized after commissioners learned that several properties were still not paying property taxes two years after the board of assessors voted to have their tax exempt statue removed.
“So We certainly want to get them resolved and look forward to the opportunity to do it we had a lot questions so this has come to the forefront so we can get in there and see what’s going on I’m glad to have Mr Ross still available because how can you resolve the issues without having him on board to do it,” said Charles Smith the Chairman of the Tax Assessors Board.
The board has the authority to hire the Chief Appraiser.
Ross said he accepted the new contract and the vote by the tax assessors board was unanimous
