River Watch Parkway improvements taking a little longer than originally expected

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF) – The River Watch Parkway renovation project in Richmond County will take a little longer than originally projected.

That’s according to Kyle Collins with the Georgia Department of Transportation.

Collins says that ongoing construction, including some items added onto the original contract, will probably take until the end of the September to complete. The original date given for the end of construction was late July.

Major work with the new median barrier and lighting from River Shoals Parkway to 15th Street has been completed. But, that section still needs to be resurfaced. Collins says that work will start next week and occur at night.

Resurfacing on the section of River Watch between the CSX rail crossing and the Columbia County line has been completed. However, improvements are ongoing around the intersection of River Watch Parkway and Interstate 20, including the demolition and reconstruction of a barrier wall on the eastbound side of the parkway and improvements at its intersection with Riverwest Drive in front of the Pilot truck stop. In addition, that area will be resurfaced, from River Shoals Parkway to the CSX rail crossing.

Beams Contracting Inc. is working on all of these projects. Collins tells NewsChannel 6 the delays are due to a few items added to the original contract, including bridge approach slab replacements, patching and vegetation removal in the rights-of-way.
