Richmond County deputy resigns after alleged domestic violence

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF) – A Richmond County Sheriff’s deputy facing domestic violence charges has resigned.

Danafrey Clanton was previously on administrative leave after deputies responded to a home on the 3500 block of Crawfordville Drive early Saturday morning.

Clanton resigned on Wednesday, according to Lt. Alan Rollins of the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF) – The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office has placed one of their own on administrative leave.

At 3:20 a.m. Saturday, deputies responded to the 3500 block of Crawfordville Drive in reference to a domestic disturbance. According to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, Deputy Danafrey Clanton was found to be the “primary agressor in the dispute.”

Clanton was found in a neighbor’s back yard and was taken into custody. Clanton is now at the Charlie Webster Detention Center and has been charged with Misdemeanor Battery under the Family Violence Act and Misdemeanor Criminal Trespass.

Clanton will remain on leave during an internal affairs investigation.
