He has filled the CSRA with sweet sounds for 7 years, but Augusta’s Maestro is calling it quits. Shizuo Z Kuwahara is leaving his post at Symphony Orchestra Augusta. A news release says he is leaving “to pursue opportunities to conduct the great orchestras of the world.”
The release also quotes Kuwahara: “We have made many great accomplishments together, and I want to sincerely thank you for making my 7 years of directorship such a fruitful experience. I am confident that the organization is in good hands with the wonderful board, staff members, and especially the talented musicians playing in the orchestra. I hope to see great things from the orchestra as the symphony moves into the Miller Theater and beyond. Enjoy the wonderful season coming up, and I hope to see you again soon!”
Z took the job as musical director for SOA in 2009. Executive Director Anne Catherine Murray will lead the search for his replacement. SOA is set to move in to its new home in the renovated Miller Theater late next year.
