(WJBF) – 22 Irish Travelers from the Murphy Village community in Aiken County will face a federal judge for the first time next week.
The suspects are charged in a 45-count indictment for Racketeering and other crimes related to Fraudulent Schemes.
A grand jury believes the 22 Travelers committed fraud through food stamp benefits, health care benefits, tax returns, banking, insurance and scams.
So far, federal investigators have seized five homes and more than 20 cars connected to the case.
The first court date is scheduled for this Tuesday, August 30th at 10 a.m. at the Matthew J. Perry, Jr. Courthouse in Columbia, South Carolina.
