AUGUSTA,Ga (WJBF) At least one Augusta home owner is better off tonight, thanks to the storm water fee.
In July we showed you the overgrown ditch next to a home on Virginia Avenue
This was causing storm water to back up, flooding the yard in heavy rain.
But now with a tropical storm overheard we found the ditch had been cut back with the water flowing freely.
But city leaders say even with the storm water fee in place for the last nine months not all the storm problems have been fixed.
” “Unfortunately it doesn’t work that way we have thousand and thousands of storm drainage structures that require some degree of maintenance and we couldn’t get to all of them within the last few months so it’s going to be a process to get all of that cleared out,” says City Administrator Janice Jackson.
To speed up the work commissioners have approved spending four million dollars in storm fees hiring about twenty private contractors to work on drainage projects.
