NORCROSS, Ga. – The Augusta University women’s golf team began year two under head coach Caroline Hegg on Tuesday in the Louisville Fall Kickoff at Berkeley Hills Country Club in Norcross, Ga. The Jaguars tied for third with Vanderbilt at 24-over par after 36 holes of play.
The tourney consisted of host Louisville, Auburn, Augusta, College of Charleston, Georgia, Georgia State, and Vanderbilt. The single-day, 36-hole tournament began on the par-72, 6,183-yard course with an 8:45 a.m. shotgun start.
The University of Georgia took first place (+9), Auburn second (+15), Augusta and Vandy shared third (+24), and host Louisville grabbed fifth for the top-five teams.
In her first college tournament, new Augusta freshman Linda Lundqvist led the team with a 149 (+5). Lundqvist fired a 73 (+1) and 76 (+4) in her first event as a Jaguar and tied for ninth overall.
Senior Josefine Nyqvist shot 77 (+5) and 74 (+2) in the opening event to tie for 16th seven-over par. Teammate Jessica Haigwood notched a top-25 finish by ending nine above par. Haigwood posted the low round of the day for Augusta with a round-one 70 (-2). She had six total birdies.
Jags sophomore Cecilia Diez-Moliner tie for 30th 10 shots over par and senior Eunice Yi rounded out the Jags in a tie for 33rd 11 over. Diez-Moliner had five birdies – the fourth most of the event.
The Jaguars enter the year ranked No. 48 on Golfstat.com and No. 49 on Golfweek.com.
Augusta heads to the Lone Star State for the Red Raider Invitational Sept. 12-13 in Lubbock, Texas. The event at The Rawls Course is hosted by Texas Tech.
