Columbia County, Ga. – A child is dead after drowning in Lake Thurmond, Saturday.

It happened at Wild Wood Park when 4- year old Jace Alan Baker drowned.

Columbia County investigators say they responded shortly after 6pm to Wild Wood Campground.

They say the family was camping with their grandmother for the weekend for her birthday.

Deputies say Baker was swimming with his cousins and then his cousins went to go fishing at the dock.

That’s when they noticed Baker was not with them.

After searching, investigators say Baker was found approximately eight feet from the shore in a designated swimming area next to the campsite.

An autopsy is scheduled at the GBI Crime lab in Atlanta.
