GROVETOWN, Ga. (WJBF) – The Grovetown Jail will be getting a new look.
Mayor Gary Jones tells NewsChannel 6 Kulke Construction was issued a bid to covert the old jail cells into administrative offices and create back parking lots along with fencing.
Dispatch will also be getting new counter tops.
The police side of the Annex Building on Robinson Avenue will be moved into the former jail.
Inmates are currently held at the Columbia County Detention Center and haven’t been held in the former jail in more than a year.
The current senior center located across from City Hall will be converted into a 100 seat courtroom to hold municipal court.
All of this would get rid of the Annex Building.
The total cost for the revamp is estimated to be about $275,000 for the jail remodel.
It will cost about $10,000 for the new courtroom.
Mayor Jones says this is all in an effort to save the city money.
