Augusta, Ga. (WJBF) — During middle school, Clay McKnight decided to try cross country. She wound up winning her very first race, so she was hooked and opted to stick with it. Now, McKnight is an all-region runner for the ARC Musketeers.
She’s also this week’s WJBF Scholar Athlete. McKnight is a four-sport athlete who participates in cross country, basketball, soccer and track and field.
McKnight hopes to attend either Wake Forest or Georgia Tech for college, so academics are a priority for her as well. Just another reason why her younger brother Locke looks up to her.
“She’s always looking up, not down,” Locke said. “She’s just a great athlete. I wish I could have all that.”
For Clay, it’s her drive that sets her apart from other student athletes.
“Determination is one of my big things that motivates me, but also, I love to compete,” Clay said. “I’m very competitive.”
“There’s a confidence there but it’s not cockiness,” ARC’s cross country and soccer coach, Kevin Scheyer, said. “The confidence is what I think makes her a great athlete.”
Congratulations to Clay McKnight, this week’s WJBF Scholar Athlete.
