Aiken man dead after officer involved car chase

AIKEN, S.C. – One man is dead after an officer involved car chase in Aiken County, Sunday morning.

27-year old Andre Jackson of Kershaw Street in Aiken was pronounced dead at the scene of a crash that happened at the intersection of Chesterfield Street and Columbia Avenue around 4:50 am.

Investigators tell NewsChannel 6 that Jackson was the driver of a 2005 Mitsubishi 4-door that was speeding during a chase by an Aiken Department of Public Safety officer.

The Aiken County Coroner’s Office says Jackson was not wearing a seat belt when his car left the roadway and hit a tree.

There were two passengers in the car with Jackson. They were taken to Augusta University Medical Center in critical condition.

An autopsy is scheduled for Monday morning in Newberry, S.C. to determine the exact cause of Jackson’s death.

No word on why Jackson was involved in that chase with the officer.

The Aiken County Coroner’s Office along with the South Carolina Highway Patrol, MAIT and the Aiken Department of Public Safety are investigating.
