Ashley Brooks is right where she is supposed to be. She’s living out a lifelong passion in her 3rd grade classroom at Brookwood Elementary School.
“I’ve always had a love for very young children,” Brooks says. “They’re so excited to learn. That makes it very fun to teach them.”
Ms. Brooks teaches Science, Social Studies, and on the day we dropped by, Math.
“Right now we’re working on word problems, addition and subtraction. In a few weeks we’ll start multiplication.”
The students say busy and that makes them stay focused–even at this age when distractions are everywhere.
“You have to make it fun for them and make it challenging. I’ve found that kids are always up for a challenge.”
Challenges that mean changes in the short time they’re here.
“At the beginning of the year and the end of the year, I see totally different children. We can see them grow all throughout the year.”
Way to go Ashley Brooks–a great teacher who takes such a positive approach to her profession.
“Every day you get to do something that you love at work,” she says. “The kids are always excited and that makes you excited to be where you are.”
