SWAINSBORO, Ga. (WJBF) – A Vidalia, Georgia man is charged with murder in the death of a Collins, Georgia man over the weekend.
According to the Emanuel County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a shooting at approximately 4 a.m. Sunday at Flat’s Lounge, located about 5 miles outside of Swainsboro.
Upon arrival, deputies found Collins resident Divonte Coney, 20, dead from an apparent gun shot wound.
After the shooting, a crowd began to gather at Huddle House in Swainsboro. While patrolling the area, Swainsboro Police officers came into contact with David Lee Sharpe, Jr., 27 of Vidalia. They arrested Sharpe when they say he tried to conceal and dispose of a stolen handgun as they approached.
Sharpe is a convicted felon and has been charged in this case with Malice Murder, Aggravated Assault, Possession of a Firearm by Convicted Felon and Theft by Receiving Stolen Property. Sharpe is being held in the Emanuel County Jail without bond.
