Aiken County stables open doors to shelter horses for evacuees

Many local stables are making room for evacuees needing to shelter their horses.

AIKEN, S.C. (WJBF) – Many local stables are making room for evacuees needing to shelter their horses.

McGhee’s Mile in Aiken County has space for up to 150 horses. Owner Janis McGhee says many people coming from the coast have already started booking a stable for their animals.

In the past, during emergencies the facility tries not to turn anyone away.

“We had I think over 250 horses here,” McGhee told WJBF NewsChannel 6,”and cows and goats. They had everything here.”

Sheltering an animal at the stable runs about $10 dollars a night.
