Richmond County schools to house hurricane evacuees

RICHMOND COUNTY, Ga. (WJBF) – Area schools within Richmond County are preparing to house hurricane evacuees from Chatham County.

Up to 5000 evacuees will be bussed into Richmond County.

The first of the buses are expected to arrive between 3 and 4 p.m.

The following schools may be used as shelters:

  • Butler High School
  • Laney High School (for evacuees with pets at the fairground)
  • Westside High School
  • ARC High School
  • Glenn Hills High School
  • Josey High School
  • Tubman Education Center
  • RCTCM High School
  • Hephzibah High School
  • Tutt Middle School
  • Glenn Hills Middle School
  • Garrett Community Center

Students will already be out of school Friday for Fall break.

The Red Cross will be assisting the evacuees.
