AIKEN, S.C. (WJBF) – The sleeping arrangements at a local shelter are not lacking comfort.
South Aiken High School was designated as the primary shelter in the Aiken County.
On Wednesday, the Red Cross warned evacuees they would not provide cots to sleep on.
On Thursday afternoon, more than 100 cots were delivered for evacuees.
Many of the evacuees WJBF NewsChannel 6 spoke with say they are just thankful to have a safe place sleep.
“They are doing a great job! They have sleeping arrangements, food, stuff to wash off with, towels, rags. It’s really great.” Nilera Hipp, an evacuees from Beaufort, told WJBF NewsChannel 6.
Local churches, restaurants and hotels have donated supplies for evacuees at South Aiken High School.
Red Cross volunteers say they are expecting more cots to be delivered from Columbia.
They are also asking people to donate bedding or blankets for evacuees.
