Red Cross Opens Shelters for Storm Evacuees; Needs Volunteers

The Augusta Chapter of the American Red Cross has opened up several shelters in our area for evacuees from Hurricane Matthew.

There are three shelters in Augusta;  May Park, the Henry Brigham Community Center and Trinity on the HIll United Methodist Church.

The Brigham Center is reportedly full.

The organization also has shelters open in Swainsboro and Louisville.

If you’re able to volunteer your time to help evacuees, the Red Cross has a link where you can apply.  You can find that here.

As of 6:30 Friday night, the city of Augusta reported 2500 Chatham County evacuees were being sheltered at 8 Richmond County schools.

There were 400 self-evacuees at the three Red Cross shelters.
