AIKEN, S.C. (WJBF) – The Aiken County Animal Shelter, along with Friends of the Animal Shelter (FOTAS), are hosting “Cat-pacity Caturday” this Saturday, October 8, from 11:30 am to 4pm.
Shelter officials are waiving adoption fees for cats and kittens, usually $35, in an effort to reduce the number of cats currently at the shelter and provide much-needed space so that the shelter can take in more animals in need. Officials say they have seen a record number of animals surrendered to the shelter this summer. Unlike most shelters and rescues, the Aiken County Animal Shelter, which is funded by taxpayer dollars, cannot refuse an Aiken or Edgefield County animal regardless of capacity.
The shelter currently has more than 80 cats that need loving homes.
