EAST HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — Four federal law enforcement officials tell the New York Times that the FBI is investigating the plane crash in East Hartford as intentional.
Those officials are speaking anonymously because of the ongoing investigation. The New York times reporting that the sole survivor is telling investigators that this was no accident. The FAA and the NTSB is trying to figure out what happened.
Crews are still on the scene. The East Hartford school district is warning parents that school bus service could be delayed this morning. The street where the accident happened remains closed. The Piper PA 34 aircraft on final approach to land at Hartford-Bradley airport. Instead of making it to the airport, the plane crashed in the 400 block of Main Street in East Hartford.
The aircraft missed a van with a mother and her children inside by inches, clipping an electrical pole, and cartwheeling down the street before coming to a complete stop. Investigators are currently trying to figure out the cause of the crash.
Police tell New 8 that two people where on the plane at the time of the crash. The student pilot died. The instructor is still at the hospital Wednesday morning.
Investigators are not saying who was in control of the plane at the time of the crash.
