AIKEN, S.C. (WJBF-TV) – An interactive, mobile exhibit is showing people in Aiken what it’s like to live in poverty.
The Compassion Experience is set up in the parking lot of Millbrook Baptist Church.
It features an interactive journey through the true stories of children living in developing countries like the Philippines, Kenya, Uganda and the Dominican Republic.
Visitors get to step inside homes, markets and schools.
The experience is an emotional one.
“A typical room in a third world country is about 12 by 12 for a family. That’s pretty small. That usually gets people. The size of the rooms as well as the different things that the children have to go through. With Carlos’ story, he has to start work at a very young age,” tour manager Colleen Wallace said.
The Compassion Experience is free and each story lasts about 15 minutes.
The event will be in Aiken through Monday.
