AUGUSTA,Ga (WJBF) Policy changes for the city of Augusta could make it easier for those who have been in prison to get a job.
A series of policy changes include a version of the so called ban the box..
The recommendation would have people who are doing the hiring for the city, not consider a person’s criminal past until they’re a finalist for the position.
” Remember a felony was not suppose to be a death sentence at the end of the day that’s what it becomes we have to find a way to mainstream individuals back into the system so so they can have a quality of life,” says Commissioner Ben Hasan.
The policy recommendations would also for the first time not allow for discrimination in city government for sexual orientation or gender identification..
The city administrator said some of the recommendations are still being worked on and requested the committee hold off on approving them.
