AUGUSTA.Ga (WJBF) New at six. making room for a new hotel in downtown Augusta.
There’s been no official announcement but the old city jail is being torn down on ninth Street.
And this afternoon commissioners agreed to lease 100 parking spots in the Reynolds Street deck to the owners of the Marriott.
The lease agreement says the spaces will be used for a hotel.
” Are an indication we are pro growth we’re pro business we want to see development take place in and around downtown I think you’re going to be seeing more about that here in the next few days,” says Mayor Hardie Davis.
Marriott Hotel officials and their lawyer were at the commission meeting today but decline to talk about the plans for the new hotel.
But the agreement also calls for a new pedestrian bridge to be built across ninth street for the hotel.
And another bridge across Reynolds Street to the Convention Center.
