Augusta, GA. (WJBF)- NewsChannel 6 received a call earlier this week from a concerned parent regarding phone lines being crossed between two separate schools here in Richmond County. Renza Bing said her son called and tried leaving her a message from his school at Deer Chase elementary. When she tried returning the phone call she was immediately sent to Diamond Lakes elementary.
After several fail attempts to reach her son she finally decided to call her sons school directly. There she spoke with the Principal who explained to her that phone lines have been crossing between the two schools for quite some time. Bing say’s her fear is that during an emergency if phone lines were to be crossed she wouldn’t be able to reach her son.
I reached out to the Richmond County Board of Education and was told that they have reached out to AT&T about the problem but they haven’t been given a time table as to when the problem will be resolved.
The last work order we received for this issue was 2 years ago. We haven’t received anything since then. We have not received a time table for when the issue will be corrected, but AT&T is working on it today. We understand that this is a sporadically occurring issue, however, if parents have issues contacting the school, they can contact the office of Dr. Malinda Cobb, Assistant Superintendent for Area 2 (both schools are in that area), at (706)826-1123 for assistance contacting the schools.
