AUGUSTA,Ga (WJBF) Augusta Commissioners tried to make a deal with commissioner Marion Williams over getting paid for serving on the planning commission.
Williams was appointed to the planning commission last year as the ex-officio member..
The planning board use to pay all members including the ex-officio but that stopped when the department re-organized five years ago.
But after a search of records it was found the commission never approved stopping the practice.
And Williams says he should be paid for the meetings he attended.
“”Ex-officio member always got paid on that board George when I served before George when the reorg changed back when they did a lot of changes someone decided to take it out and it wasn’t right if you serve you ought to get paid,” said Williams.
Williams did not take part in any votes, but the motion to pay Williams for the last two meetings of this year and the three other meeting he attended failed.
A frustrated Mayor Davis says we spent three hours on this issue and got were back to square one.
