AIKEN, S.C. (WJBF) – The Aiken County Animal Shelter, along with Friends Of The Animal Shelter (FOTAS) held their annual “Woofstock” event Saturday at Citizens Park in Aiken.

Hundreds of humans and almost as many canines turned out for a field day for our furry friends, with the highlight being the “Doxie Derby” weiner dog races. This was the first year the event was held at Citizens Park after outgrowing the animal shelter.

There were also contests for best trick, best costume, best kisser and best pet-owner look-alike. Activities for humans included plenty of food options and vendors.

WJBF NewsChannel 6’s John Hart served as master of ceremonies.

The main reason for the event was to help find forever homes for the dogs and cats at the Aiken County Animal Shelter. Several shelter pets were adopted Saturday but many more remain. If you’d like to adopt, donate or volunteer you can go to www.fotasaiken.org or call the Aiken County Animal Shelter at (803) 642-1537.
