Johnston, S.C. (WJBF) — Beth Warnken was born into a volleyball family.
Her mother, Chrisite Warnken, is the head coach at Wardlaw Academy where Beth is a senior. Her older sister, Katie, played at Wardlaw, and her father coached her when she was younger.
Warnken, an all-region volleyball and basketball player, led the Patriots to a South Carolina Independent School Association (SCISA) 1A volleyball state championship in October. She is also the head of the school honor roll, with the top GPA in her senior class.
“My sister got scholar athlete a couple years ago,” Warnken said. “She was also a volleyball player and we played together. She was very motivational for me. We really loved playing together and we fed off each other when we played together.”
Christie Warnken said her youngest daughter was happy to win the WJBF Scholar Athlete award, especially since her oldest daughter won it a couple years ago.
“It’s a really big honor for both of them,” Christie Warnken said. “Beth was over the moon. Her emotions were just so high to think that she could win it too like her big sister, so that was really special for her.”
