AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF) — The Laney Wildcats (4-5, 4-2) host the Josey Eagles (4-5, 3-3) in the final WJBF Game Night Live broadcast of the season on Friday.
The Wildcats clinched a playoff berth last week with their win over Harlem, but still need a win over Josey to secure the third seed.
“It’s up for the third seed, so both teams have a lot to play for,” Laney head coach Rodney McFadden said. “It’s always a big thing when it’s Laney [versus] Josey. A lot of families [are] involved, so it’s always great to see everybody come out.”
The Eagles control their own playoff destiny. With a win, they earn the third seed, but a loss and a Glenn Hills victory would knock Josey out of a playoff spot.
“This is the biggest game of the year,” Josey head coach Raleigh Roundtree said. “Being a Josey alumni, playing in this game and being part of this game I know what it means. Everybody wants to beat their rival and right now, like I said, they have a strangle hold on the lead, but [we] just want to be in this game. This game is big for the city, the fans come out, it’s the biggest game of the year and we just want to win.”
The game can be seen Friday at 7:30 p.m. on MeTV or streaming on the WJBF.com homepage.
