AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF) – It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas in Augusta.

The Junior League’s sixth annual Holiday Market at the Augusta Convention Center is trying to get shoppers in the holiday spirit.

“It is a boutique style shopping event,” said Laurie Vera, the Holiday Market chair at the Junior League. “We have 88 merchants from all over the United States here, and our goal is for you to be able to complete all of your holiday shopping under roof and find something for everyone on your list.”

But it’s also for a good cause.

“For the day, it’s a ten dollar daily ticket.  A $15 weekend ticket,” Vera said. “We also have a family package. It includes photos with Santa, and that’s $35.”

That money goes into supporting the Junior League and the charities they support.

“We are an organization of women who provides funding and grants for our community,” Vera said. “Last year we were able to give over $20,000 back to the community. And we were able to fund a $10,000 donation to the Ronald McDonald House to donate [to] their playroom.”

Last year the Holiday Market saw about 3,000 shoppers, but the event has grown substantially since then.

“Last year we had 55 [vendors]. This year we have 88,” Vera said.

This year, the Junior League decided to do something special to celebrate Veteran’s Day Weekend.

“We were able to give a $1,000 grant to Fort Gordon’s Christmas House. And they provide toys and meals to military families in need,” she said.

And shoppers say it’s not too soon to get in the holiday spirit.

“Santa’s over there for goodness sake…it is Christmas here,” shopper Angel Derrick said. “So come on down. And we have the trees and the stockings and it’s precious. So you ‘ll get in the Christmas spirit.”

The Holiday Market will also be open Sunday from noon to 7 p.m.
