New mixed income housing complex set to replace Cherry Tree Crossing

AUGUSTA,Ga (WJBF) New homes are on their way to Augusta’s inner city.

It was the official ground breaking for the Legacy at Walton Green.

The soon to be new Augusta housing Authority neighborhood is located on the site of the old Cherry Tree Crossing housing complex.

When all phases are complete it will be 400 apartments creating a mix of low income and affordable housing resident.

“This is what you want to see in overall fabric of a community that’s transitioning what’s formally was Cherry Tree Crossing site will become Walton Legacy on the Green so that’s exciting it will have the look and the feel where individuals have historically stayed in tenement of project housing folks will want to live here,” said Mayor Hardie Davis.

The first phase will be 80 apartments for seniors 55 five and older.

The project is scheduled to be completed by December of next year.
