GROVETOWN, Ga. (WJBF)- Authorities are still looking for two suspects after a brutal home invasion in Columbia County.

It happened around 3:15 a.m. Monday at Eagle Pointe Apartments in Grovetown on Whiskey Rd. near the interection of Wrightsboro Rd. and Horizon South Pkwy.

Investigators say two suspects broke into one of the apartments and attacked two men with what is being described as a machete.

“Gashes, lacerations, multiple parts of the body….pretty severe,” said Lt. Jones Nalley of the Criminial Investigation Division of Grovetown Department of Public Safety.

Both are expected to survive.

“One has been in surgery most of the day, but we hear that he is going to survive,” Nalley said. “The other one was cut up. I don’t think he sought medical treatment, so they’re both going to be okay.”

It all started with a knock on the door of the apartments. When the occupants answered, they found two men who wore masks, gloves and dark colors who then forced their way inside.

Investigators say one suspect had a machete, and the other wielding a handgun.

“One shot was fired,” Nalley said. “It did not strike any victim.”

Investigators say the victims and the suspects probably know each other.

“Most of these crimes..they usually have certain motives behind it,” Nalley said. “Sometimes it’s revenge. Sometimes it’s drugs. Sometimes it’s money.”

Investigators say they don’t know of anything that was stolen, and it’s not clear whether the intruders meant to just hurt the victims or murder them.

“The motive is still under investigation,” he said.

But it does appears to be an isolated Incident.

“I was quite shocked to hear about it happening,” said Eagle Pointe residnet Royce Hoffman. “Because I mean I’ve lived here going on three years now, and you don’t really hear much. You might get somebody walking through that we don’t really know…that’s about it.”

If you have any information regarding the case, you are asked to call the Grovetown Department of Public Safety.
