THOMSON, Ga. (WJBF) — The 4A No. 2 Thomson Bulldogs have cruised through the first two rounds of the GHSA playoffs to get back to the quarterfinals for the second straight season.
The Bulldogs (12-0) host Spalding (8-4) hoping to reach the semifinals for the first time since 2002.
“I think it would be great for our school and our community,” Thomson head coach Rob Ridings said. “It would be great for these kids to have a chance because when we played in the semifinals some 14 years ago, they were probably in second or third grade and don’t really recall that. [We’re] on the brink of something great that doesn’t come around very often.”
The seniors also want to leave their mark on the Thomson program.
“You grow up in Thomson looking up to all the football players at Thomson High School,” senior defensive end Will Roberts said. “[I saw] how well they did in 2012 when I was in eighth grade and [I was] like ‘wow that’s so cool’ and to be a part of a team that gets to do that, and know the kids are looking up to you like that, it’s just a great opportunity.”
Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. on Friday at the Brickyard.
