AUGUSTA,Ga (WJBF) The battle is just beginning, when it comes to Commissioner Marion Williams getting paid for attending planning commission meetings.
Williams has argued he should be paid for attending planning commission meetings as the ex-officio member. Five yeas ago this was a paid job and there’s no record of the commission voting to end the practice. Earlier this month, commissioners voted to pay Williams for 3 meetings–but then reconsidered the action. Williams now says he’s hired a lawyer to to help him fight to be paid.
“My attorney says that I could get the same thing that the board got I was trying to get the time I served only the time i served they hadn’t did anything they voted to pay it then they reconsidered then they did nothing I’m not going to lay down with it George I fight for folks,” said Williams.
Williams says he should be paid for the 3 meetings he attended, as well as the meetings for the rest of the year. Planning board members are paid 150 dollars a month.
