Augusta, Ga (WJBF) – Tis’ this season for robberies and break-ins and tenants want to know what owners will do to prevent this from happening again.
There have been more than a dozen break-ins at Bell Self-Storage on Mike Padgett Highway so far. James Stanley and Latisa Parks are current renters and have units at the facility. They said the items stolen from them are worth thousands of dollars. Stanley said boxes were flipped over and the locks were broken into pieces in his unit. He adds that he was not immediately contacted regrading this issues. Parks says her belongings didn’t have much street value but were valuable to her and her family, she informed NewChannel 6 that since the break-in occurred she has moved to a different facility. Parks added that she was not informed about her break-in until weeks later.
“I don’t feel that our belonging are safe here,” Stanley said.
“I expect for the owners to at least replace what got taken, because it’s their property and they have no lighting, no security, at all,” Parks added.
Update: Owners of Bell Self Storage have since then contacted NewChannel 6 to give us additional information regarding this matter.
Bell Storage official statement below:
Over the Thanksgiving holiday, a paying customer broke into and stole items from other units on the property, cutting locks and tearing through dividing walls. The culprit was caught in the act and was arrested by the police over the weekend.
We value our customers, many of whom have been with us for years, and the security of their items, as our top priority. We have already repaired the doors and walls that were damaged and will be in touch with all tenants to reiterate important security measures that we are taking, and that they can take, to prevent against these kinds of events in the future.
