DEVELOPING: Officer involved shooting in Aiken County

AIKEN COUNTY, S.C.-  SLED and the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an officer involved shooting.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, Aiken County deputies responded for a 911 call in the 200 block of Cherokee Drive, Clearwater for a suspect armed with a handgun standing in the roadway around 12am, Sunday.

When Deputies arrived, they located a white male suspect matching the description standing in the middle of the roadway armed with a machete.

The suspect also told the responding deputies he had a handgun.

In a press release, it states the suspect did not respond when deputies ordered him  to drop the machete.

The armed man was shot by the responding deputies when officials say he came towards them.

The suspect was taken to the hospital, in stable condition, with two gunshot wounds.

The scene was secured and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division was notified and responded to the scene.

This is an on-going investigation by SLED and the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office.

No further information is being released at this time.
