WJBF Scholar Athlete: Briarwood Academy’s William Johnson

WARRENTON, Ga. (WJBF) — The Briarwood Academy Buccaneers made a run to the GISA AA State Championship this season and a big part of their success was senior William Johnson, who is this week’s WJBF Scholar Athlete.

“It’s a huge honor to me,” Johnson said. “I work hard in school [to] make good grades. I obviously work hard on the football field and running track. A lot of time devoted to sports and it’s just a huge honor to be recognized for that.”

Johnson has four varsity letters in three different sports: football, track and tennis. He’s also the top student in his class at Briarwood.

“He’s a blessing to this community, and he’s a blessing to this school,” Briarwood football head coach Bo Fleming said. “I don’t know what we’re going to do without him next year. It breaks my heart to see these guys move away, but I know he’s going to have a successful career in whatever he does.”

Johnson plans to enroll in the United States Air Force Academy after he graduates.
